The Regional Training and Research Center on Ocean Dynamics and Climate of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO (referred to as “ODC Centre”) was established in the First Institute, State Oceanic Administration of China. This center is part of the UNESCO-IOC Regional Network of Training and Research Centers on Oceanography initiative, and it was launched in 2008 to improve the regional capacity and capability on marine scientific research, observations in a more sustainable and systematic manner through the establishment of a series of training and research centers within national oceanographic institutes and universities. Regular training opportunities will be provided by this center for young scientists, particularly from developing countries on a free-of-charge basis.
