On June 17, 2019, the opening ceremony of UNESCO/IOC-ODC ninth training course on Climate Dynamics and Air-sea Interactions was successfully held in Qingdao, China. This training course will be held from 17-28 June 2019 and 9 world famous experts from Argentina, Japan and USA to give lectures to 42 trainees from 14 countries. This Training Course is designed to develop the capacity of member states in the Western Pacific and outside regions, who are involved in the climate dynamics and air-sea interactions research. It aims to help trainees understanding the climate dynamics and air-sea interaction on the basic theories and methods, and broadening their view through introducing frontal researches. The training course will cover the basic theory of dynamics of ENSO (El Niño–Southern Oscillation), and MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation) and other climate phenomena in tropical and mid-latitude regions, the relationship between ENSO and PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation), the impact of hurricanes and tropical storms on the coast regions, the air-sea interactions over the western boundary currents, the interactions of sea ice, ocean, atmosphere and land surface in high-latitude regions, and their applications in numerical coupled models. Practical exercises will be carried out for deep understanding the air-sea interactions in different scales and different regions.
