On 25 June, 2019, Prof. Ka-Kit Tung from University of Washington, USA gave lectures with the theme of the relationship between ENSO and PDO. He introduced the basic theories, methods and frontal researches of ENSO and PDO, ENSO Diversity and the Emergence of Central Pacific El Niño, ENSO Modulation by PDO, Global-mean Surface Temperature Variations and the Contribution of PDO or IPO to its Decadal and Multi-decadal Variation.

After the lectures, practical exercises were carried out to deepen understanding and promote cooperation. Dr. Meng Wei from First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, China assisted Prof. Ka-Kit Tung to carry out the exercises and provided guidance and suggestions to the trainees.
