On 10 December, 2018, the global operational ocean forecasting products for the 21th Century Maritime Silk Road were published. To satisfy the demand for accurate ocean forecasting products by the Member States, IOC-WESTPAC joined with the FIO to publish OFS products through WESTPAC’s official website. The OFS provides five-day forecast products and downloadable archived data of surface wave height, wave period, sea level, three-dimensional ocean currents, sea temperature and salinity. Such information is able to serve the needs of Member States and support a variety of human activities, e.g., prevention/reduction of marine hazards, fishery management, protection of the marine environment, and conservation of marine ecosystems. All products are distributed for non-commercial use with citation “FIO-COM products.” The forecasting products can be accessed easily via the Internet and the “Global Ocean on Desk” cell phone APP. When using this dataset in a paper, please quote the version number and cite this paper (Qiao et al., 2019).
