This training course invited five outstanding scientists of climate and modeling as lecturers, three from USA and the other two from China. Their lectures contained interdisciplinary information and knowledge: the ensemble empirical mode decomposition methods and applications by Dr. Zhaohua Wu from Florida State University, atmosphere-ocean interaction processes and the inter-annual variability of monsoon by Dr.Tianming Li from University of Hawaii, intraseasonal variability of the ocean by Dr. Raghu Murtugudde from University of Maryland,. the development of new ocean and climate models and applications to operational ocean forecast system by Dr. Fangli Qiao from FIO SOA, China, and sea surface wave dynamics and applications to the coupled atmosphere-wave-ocean modeling system by Dr. Changlong Guan from Ocean University of China.

The training course arranged all trainees to give reports for introducing themselves and their work.
The trainees were grouped into six teams led by voted leaders for after-class discussion and activities.
